    The ideal candidate would be able to perform both office and field work to satisfy the needs of the company. Examples of field work shall include: property boundary surveys, topographical surveys, ALTA surveys, percolation tests for onsite sewage designs, and construction staking. Office work shall include completing survey maps using AutoCAD, coordinating with the field crew, meeting with clients to discuss needs, and speaking with local municipalities to determine requirements for projects. The candidate would need to be familiar with using GPS and conventional surveying equipment with knowledge of Topcon Magnet software being ideal. Geomatics degree graduate (or enrolled in geomatics program) preferred but not required.

    Engineering Drafter Supervisors working within the Merit System use various methods such as computer-assisted drafting systems (Auto-CAD), drafting machines or manual drawings in order to produce plans, blueprints and drawings depicting various infrastructures to be used for civil engineering, construction projects, and/or public knowledge. They are expected to assist in managing civil engineering and/or construction projects. To perform this task, they may conduct on-site inspections, review work of crews and contractors against established specifications and interact with various public entities. Individuals in this position are also required to supervise Senior Engineering Drafters; delegating and reviewing work, monitoring assignment completion and providing guidance in the completion of technical duties. Engineering Drafter Supervisors are expected to work under the direction of Civil Engineers, communicating project completion and having work reviewed against established standards and guidelines.

    The City of Birmingham seeks a Chief of Party who will be responsible for directing and participating in the collection and recording of land survey data necessary to complete construction design plans. The Chief of Party supervises the activities of engineering survey crews involved in preliminary, special instruction, and final surveys by applying survey knowledge gained through training and experience to a variety of field surveying situations. Individuals in this job class work under general administrative supervision and their work is sometimes reviewed on-site after completion of the survey for compliance with professional standards.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Driver's License.
    • Experience working as part of a survey crew operating each of the following types of equipment: total stations, level, GPS equipment, electronic data collector, and CAD and survey software.
    • Experience performing calculations on data gathered and interpreting the data (e.g., construction drawings, subdivision plats, deeds, etc.).
    • Experience supervising subordinate personnel such as a Rodman or an Engineering Aide on a survey crew.
