Schoel Engineering, a full-service engineering, land surveying and land planning firm providing design services across the Southeast, currently has an opening for a qualified Alabama Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) at the firm’s Huntsville, Alabama office.
The ideal candidate must have good verbal communication and technical skills with the ability to take direction and lead in a small group setting, interact with office engineers, architects, and staff, as well as daily addressing client needs. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Autodesk Civil3D or Microstation. Experience using Totals Stations and Global Positioning System (GPS), and field data collection software.
Schoel works in a team environment. As a member of the Survey Team, responsibilities for this position will include assisting with the survey work performed in the Huntsville office, assisting with the daily survey operations of office, working alongside the survey field crew and office team members to complete projects, and support the Land Survey Department Manager in day-to-day needs.

The ideal candidate must have excellent verbal and technical communication skills with the ability to present and lead in a small group setting, interact with office engineers, architects, and staff, as well as guide clients through every aspect of the project process. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Autodesk Civil3D. Experience with conventional survey Totals Stations, Robotic Total Stations, and Global Positioning System (GPS).
Schoel works in a team environment. As a member of the Survey Team, responsibilities for this position will include the surveying work performed in the Huntsville office, managing the daily survey operations of the office, training and mentoring of the survey field and office team members, productivity efficiency, proposal writing, business development, interdepartmental communications, timesheet review, project budget management, and invoice review.
· PLS registered in the State of Alabama and in good standing with the Board of Licensure.

This position will be filled with the Survey Specialist Family. This position is primarily responsible for (1) developing new techniques to improve the speed and quality of field survey data gathering by testing new equipment and software, and by developing methods to improve the performance of existing equipment; (2) adjustments and processing of field survey data; (3) coordination of G.P.S. data gathering and processing; (4) communication and coordination with field crews, private land owners, corporations and government agencies; (5) coordination with field survey personnel to ensure that finished maps reflect the intended results of the field survey; (6) research and document compilation for a variety of projects; (7) occasional field survey data gathering; (8) training field crews to ensure efficient use of data collection software and GPS equipment
Education and Experience
· Alabama Professional Land Surveyor’s License or ability to obtain license is required
· Extensive knowledge of survey calculations is required
· Experience in survey data collection and processing is highly preferred
· Experience in GPS data collection and processing is highly preferred
· Survey related CAD drafting is highly preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
· Knowledge of the operation, setup, care and use of surveying tools and equipment, including electronic equipment and accessories.
· Knowledge of surveying procedures for a variety of survey types
· Extensive knowledge of survey calculations
· Knowledge of field electronic data collection and processing

· Knowledgeable of Alabama’s “Standards of Practice” for surveying
