Anybody have information on the Alabama Geodetic Survey?

This marker stood near an intersection here in Opelika for many years.  Most surveyors in the area were familiar with it but I think not many actually looked at the stamping.  Most probably assumed it was a USCGS monument.

It had to be removed because we put in a roundabout.

Does anybody have any knowledge about this "Alabama Geodetic Survey"?

Have you searched the NOAA data base in this area and was the monument referenced before removal?

Yes, I did look for it but it is not marked like any other federal monument I've ever seen.  The location is preserved.  It was topo'd long before removal.

    Mark,

that monument was knocked out years ago and someone put it back near where it was located.  There were some monuments like it in Auburn.  I have some old data on the Alabama Geodetic Survey in our area.  Seems like it was done in the 1940s.  I’ll see what I can find.  JLMc.
